I'm about to hire you, but I know more about the local restaurant than I do about you. Before I go to the new restaurant down the street, I can surface reviews and see ratings from everyone or my social circle. I can tap Foursquare, Yelp, and Google for information and I get true restaurant "personality" insight. Meanwhile, all I have from you is your resume (it's the clean version of you), your referrals (your top picks), and your social profiles (if public, you cleaned those too). Maybe you have a blog and perhaps I can find your Twitter handle ("jazz45"), but those probably won't tell me much about your work performance and your work mates perception of you.
I wish I could see ratings and reviews from jobs and work you've done. Your living resume - a real stream of your work, projects, people, and data on your performance. I'd really like to read what your work colleagues and bosses say abou you. Are you fast? Diligent? Strong follow through?
For now, the restaurant wins. That's an opportunity.
